Prominent actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over reports that it selected former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, from the South-South as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Okonkwo argued that the decision would further marginalise the South-East, the only geo-political zone yet to produce either a President or Vice President since 1999.
He noted that ADC founder Ralph Nwosu, an indigene of the South-East, sacrificed the party’s leadership and presidential ticket for the coalition’s success and should not see his region excluded from the vice-presidential slot.
The former Labour Party chieftain revealed that he had urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to demonstrate his commitment to South-East inclusion by choosing a running mate from the region.
Okonkwo warned that if the reports are confirmed, he would not support or campaign for any presidential ticket that does not feature a South-Easterner as either President or Vice President in the 2027 election.
