Residents and youths of Umabor Eha-Alumonah Community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have staged a protest over what they described as years of government neglect, calling for urgent intervention in the area’s deteriorating infrastructure.
The protesters appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to extend ongoing development projects to the community, lamenting the poor condition of roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and rising security concerns.
Speaking on behalf of the Umabor Unity Forum, Emmanuel Uzoh Ugwueze said the community has suffered prolonged neglect despite consistently supporting successive governments at the polls.
According to him, critical public infrastructure in the area has fallen into disrepair, with the Agu-Umabor Road identified as a major contributor to insecurity and economic hardship.
The protesters warned that politicians seeking support during the 2027 general elections would face resistance unless tangible development projects are delivered to the community.
Meanwhile, concerned residents have taken to social media to amplify their grievances and demand government action.
One of the residents, Utonwa Michael, urged the state government to rehabilitate existing schools in the community, noting that the distance to some of the newly established Smart Schools makes access difficult for many children.
He stressed that every child deserves quality education within a reasonable distance from home, regardless of location.
Another community member, Christian Nnaemeka, expressed dissatisfaction with the state of roads, schools, and security in the area, insisting that development should go beyond campaign promises and be reflected in improved living conditions for residents.
The community is calling on the Enugu State Government to prioritise infrastructure renewal, enhance security, and improve access to education and healthcare services in Umabor.
Residents say they remain hopeful that their concerns will receive the attention needed to address years of developmental challenges.
