Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has disclosed that South-East governors and key stakeholders are pursuing political solutions that could facilitate the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, while maintaining peace and stability across the region.

Umahi made the statement during an inspection of Section II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Epe, Lagos State, stressing that efforts are ongoing to ensure lasting peace in the South-East.

The minister also reaffirmed the region’s support for President Bola Tinubu, stating that Ebonyi State remains loyal to the President and his administration’s development agenda.

Commenting on reports that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, had allegedly criticised some of the Federal Government’s legacy infrastructure projects, Umahi described such a position as regrettable and urged Nigerians to support projects that promote national growth and economic development.

He further challenged supporters of both leaders to compare the achievements of Tinubu and Obi during their respective tenures as governors of Lagos and Anambra states.

Highlighting the significance of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Umahi described the project as a transformative national infrastructure initiative capable of driving economic expansion, improving connectivity, and creating new opportunities across the country, including the South-East.

The minister expressed optimism that ongoing federal projects would boost regional development and strengthen economic integration nationwide.
