The Inspector-General of Police, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East Zone, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has led a strategic security stakeholders’ engagement in Anambra State aimed at strengthening collaboration for improved safety and sustainable peace.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, brought together security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society groups and other key stakeholders to discuss prevailing security challenges and develop practical solutions to emerging threats.

Speaking during the engagement, DIG Onwuemelie said the initiative forms part of a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police to promote intelligence sharing, community participation and coordinated security responses across the country.

He stressed that effective policing requires active public support and urged residents and stakeholders to partner with security agencies through timely information sharing and participation in community-based security initiatives.

The engagement focused on enhancing cooperation among security institutions, traditional authorities and community groups to strengthen crime prevention and improve public safety in the state.

As part of the visit, the DIG paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, HRM Igwe Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu II of Awka), who commended the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security across Anambra State.

The monarch pledged the continued support of traditional institutions in fostering a safer environment for residents.

The event was attended by heads of security agencies, the Secretary to the State Government, members of the Anambra State Traditional Council, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, transport unions, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, civil society organisations and representatives of the northern community in the state.
