Anaocha Local Government Area has emerged as the best-performing council in primary healthcare delivery in Anambra State, with its Mayor, Comrade Romanus Ibekwe, receiving the Best Performing Mayor Award at the Anambra Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge.
The award, presented at the Lighthouse in Awka, saw Anaocha rank first among the state’s 21 local government areas and receive a cash prize of ₦3 million.
The recognition follows major investments by the Ibekwe administration in the health sector, including the upgrade and equipping of more than 23 primary healthcare centres to improve access to quality medical services.
Beyond healthcare, the administration has implemented projects in education, road infrastructure, erosion control, youth empowerment, environmental sanitation, potable water supply, and local economic development, including the establishment of an e-automobile mechanic workshop and a palm oil processing factory.
Speaking after receiving the award, Comrade Ibekwe dedicated the honour to the people of Anaocha, healthcare workers, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. He also thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting grassroots development, describing the award as motivation to sustain impactful governance across the local government area.
