Fresh developments have emerged in the investigation into the tragic murder of Imo nursing student, Wendy Achumba, with authorities reportedly clearing Emmanuel, who was previously implicated in the case, after extensive forensic and investigative procedures.

According to information made available, Emmanuel has been released from custody following the outcome of detailed investigations, including forensic examinations, biometric screening, interrogations, and other investigative processes, which reportedly found no evidence linking him to the crime.

Investigators are said to have concluded that the evidence points to Onyema Okonkwo as the principal suspect in the case.

Sources familiar with the investigation further alleged that Onyema confessed during interrogation that Emmanuel had no involvement in the murder. He reportedly admitted that he implicated Emmanuel because of a previous personal disagreement between them.

Community members also claimed that when Onyema was first apprehended and questioned by local youths, he did not mention any accomplice, adding that Emmanuel’s name allegedly surfaced only during subsequent questioning. These claims form part of the ongoing investigation.

The latest development has been welcomed by many residents, who expressed relief that an individual now believed to be innocent was not wrongfully held responsible for the crime.

Emmanuel has since regained his freedom and reunited with his family after investigators reportedly established that there was no evidence connecting him to the alleged rape and murder.

Meanwhile, Onyema Okonkwo remains the principal suspect in the case and is expected to face prosecution. However, under Nigerian law, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The gruesome killing of Wendy Achumba has continued to generate widespread public concern, with residents and stakeholders calling for a thorough, transparent, and impartial prosecution to ensure justice is served.

As investigations progress, authorities have urged the public to allow the judicial process to take its course and avoid speculation capable of prejudicing the case.
