Portugal have appointed Jorge Jesus as the new head coach of the national team, with the experienced Portuguese manager signing a contract that will keep him in charge until June 2030. The 71-year-old succeeds Roberto Martínez and will oversee the nation’s next major international cycle.
The Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed Jorge Jesus as the new manager of the national team, entrusting the veteran coach with a long-term project that includes the UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2028, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Portugal will co-host alongside Spain and Morocco.
Jesus arrives after a successful spell with Al Nassr, where he guided the club to the Saudi Pro League title alongside Cristiano Ronaldo last season. The appointment reunites the pair at international level, with Jesus expected to build on Portugal’s experienced core while integrating the country’s next generation of talent.
The appointment marks Jesus’ first role in international football following a distinguished club coaching career that has included spells with Benfica, Sporting CP, Flamengo, Fenerbahçe, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr. Portugal will now look to the seasoned tactician to lead their pursuit of silverware over the next four years and prepare the Seleção for a home World Cup in 2030.
