The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the alleged attack on former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ifeanyi Nworie, during a political gathering in Idembia, Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the State Chairman of the PDP, Chukwuma Igwe, also alleged that supporters of Nworie and members of the media were attacked by individuals he described as agents and appointees of the APC-led Ebonyi State Government.
Igwe further claimed that supporters of the PDP have faced intimidation and threats in recent weeks as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, several vehicles were damaged during the incident, while a number of persons allegedly sustained injuries, with eight reportedly receiving medical treatment.
The PDP chairman described the development as a threat to democratic principles and called on security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property, as well as safeguard the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of association and political participation.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Armed Forces and other security agencies to remain impartial and provide a level playing field for all political parties.
Igwe maintained that the PDP would continue to pursue lawful and constitutional means to protect the rights and safety of its members while calling on party supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Government had not issued an official response to the allegations.
