The Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State has strengthened its primary healthcare system with the distribution of medical equipment to 34 health centres across the council area.

The intervention, carried out by the administration of the Mayor, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, is aimed at improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that residents, particularly women, children and other vulnerable groups, have better access to essential medical services.

The equipment distributed included hospital beds, delivery beds, mattresses, bed sheets, adult and baby weighing scales, surgical ward robes and other medical supplies.

Representing the Mayor during the presentation, the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mrs. Ijeoma Okoli, urged the management of the beneficiary health centres to handle the equipment responsibly and ensure proper maintenance for the benefit of residents.

She said the intervention was part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots and aligned with the Solution Agenda of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

According to her, the council would continue to support programmes that improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services within Nnewi North.

The Supervisor for Health, Nnewi North LGA, Hon. Mrs. Uche Nwokenagu, described the intervention as timely, saying the equipment would improve the working environment for healthcare workers and enhance service delivery.

She added that strengthening primary healthcare facilities would help residents access treatment closer to their communities while reducing avoidable referrals to higher-level hospitals.

Heads of the beneficiary health centres and community stakeholders commended the council for the intervention, describing it as a direct-impact initiative that would contribute to better healthcare outcomes across Nnewi North.
