Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, is cruising to victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
As votes were being sorted and counted across the state, Davido took to social media to celebrate what he described as an early advantage for the Accord Party candidate.
The singer also claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had suffered a setback in the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.
“Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!” he wrote.
Davido, who has been one of the most vocal celebrity supporters of his uncle’s re-election bid, also urged Osun residents to remain vigilant throughout the night.
He alleged that former governor Gboyega Oyetola could be planning moves against Adeleke’s camp and called on voters to resist any such attempt.
“I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he added.
In another post, Davido expressed confidence that Adeleke would emerge victorious and urged security agencies to maintain their presence at polling units during the collation process.
“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had commenced the sorting, counting and uploading of results following the conclusion of voting across the state.
As of 5:51 p.m., results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had reportedly been uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
The three leading candidates had earlier expressed confidence in victory.
Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, cast his vote at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji voted at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.
Both candidates said they were confident of winning the election.
However, African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of his party agents in several parts of the state.
INEC had yet to officially declare a winner as of the time of filing the report.
