Businesswoman Ehi Ogbebor has opened up about the doubts and uncertainty she experienced in her marriage, revealing that she began questioning her decision just three days after getting married.
Speaking on the WithChude podcast, Ehi said she confronted her husband shortly after the wedding and told him she no longer wanted to remain in the marriage.
She said, “Sorry, sorry, I don’t think I want to marry you. I swear to God.”
According to the businesswoman, the feeling came suddenly, as though something had been lifted from her eyes. While some people suggested that “juju” could have been responsible, Ehi said she does not believe in such explanations and remains unable to identify what triggered her sudden change of heart.
“I don’t know what it is, or what it was. But I know three days after, I can never forget. And I’m like, ‘No, I don’t know if I wanted to marry you,’” she recounted.
Ehi described the relationship as an “unsure marriage” from her perspective, adding that her doubts were compounded by what she characterised as her husband’s controlling behaviour.
She revealed that she left the marriage several times and returned to her parents’ home, including at one point when she was pregnant, because she said, “I don’t feel safe.”
However, according to her, her husband repeatedly returned to plead with her, while members of her family also encouraged her to go back to the marriage.
Ehi further recounted an unusual demand from her husband while they were living in Edo State.
She said he instructed her to make her family believe that she was living abroad rather than in Nigeria.
“He would tell me, like, ‘Let your family take it that you live abroad,’” she said.
