Police in Anambra State have arrested a 22 year old woman, identified as Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, over an alleged case of conspiracy, fraud and suspected self-kidnapping after her family reportedly paid N3 million in ransom.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
According to the police, the suspect was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. However, despite the reported payment of N3 million ransom by her family, she was allegedly not released.
Ikenga said the development prompted further investigation by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, who acted on intelligence gathered during the investigation.
He said police operatives on Friday afternoon, September 18, 2026, traced and located the alleged victim in a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was recovered.
Preliminary findings, according to the police, indicated that Blessing allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another male accomplice whose identity remains unknown, to stage her own kidnapping and obtain money from her family.
The police said the arrested woman is currently assisting investigators with information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other persons allegedly involved.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be intensified to determine the full circumstances of the case and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the appropriate legal process.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in providing information that could assist investigations into criminal activities.
