Iran’s top security official, Mohsen Rezaei, has confirmed receiving a letter from US Vice President JD Vance but says he has not yet decided to respond.
Speaking in an interview carried by Iranian state media on Saturday, Rezaei said the tone of Washington’s latest communication was significantly different from previous exchanges between the two countries.
He described the change as a positive development, claiming that it showed Iran had strengthened its position in the ongoing conflict.
“Their tone has completely changed, which is a good sign indicating that the Iranian nation has solidified its victory and power,” Rezaei said.
He declined to disclose the contents of the letter, adding that he would not comment further until Tehran determines its response.
The letter reportedly forms part of Washington’s latest diplomatic effort to restart negotiations with Iran and prevent another round of US military strikes.
Reports from US media indicate that Vance’s message proposed renewed discussions between the two countries, with the possibility of the vice president personally leading an American delegation.
However, the details of the proposed negotiations remain unclear, and Iranian officials have maintained that Washington must address Tehran’s conditions before any agreement can be reached.
The diplomatic exchange comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with concerns that the breakdown of negotiations could lead to renewed military confrontation.
Rezaei’s comments suggest that communication between the two sides remains open, although Iran has yet to formally respond to the American proposal.
