The new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, says he will hit the ground running to ensure the party emerges victorious at the off-season gubernatorial elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states.
Ganduje stated this in Abuja as part of his acceptance speech after he emerged as the substantive National Chairman of the ruling APC on Thursday following the party’s 12th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
The former Kano governor also promised to deepen internal democracy by giving every member of the party a level playing field during party primaries.
Under Ganduje’s leadership, the APC would be looking to retain Kogi and Imo states while trying to dislodge the PDP in Bayelsa in the upcoming November 11 election.
In Imo State, the party has fielded the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodimma, who is seeking a second term.
While former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipriye Silver, and Usman Dodo, a former Auditor General of Local Government in his state, are governorship candidates of the APC in Bayelsa and Kogi, respectively.
The above-mentioned states are among the 8 states that experience off-season governorship elections because of litigations and court judgments.
Other states are Ekiti, Anambra, Ondo, Osun, and Edo.
