The Awka Youths General Assembly (AYGA) has criticized the recent inauguration of a new cabinet by deposed Awka monarch, Chief Gibson Nwosu, describing the move as controversial and capable of generating fresh tensions within the community.
In a statement issued by the group, AYGA questioned the timing and legitimacy of the cabinet inauguration, alleging that the action runs contrary to the wishes of many stakeholders in the Awka Kingdom.
The youth body further expressed concerns about what it described as attempts to influence traditional affairs in the community, alleging that external interests may be playing a role in recent developments surrounding the former monarch.
According to the group, several members of Chief Nwosu’s previous cabinet are no longer associated with him, a situation it claims has raised questions among residents about the direction of leadership and decision-making within the traditional institution.
AYGA called on sons and daughters of Awka, traditional stakeholders and community leaders to remain vigilant and actively participate in efforts aimed at preserving peace, unity and the cultural heritage of the kingdom.
The group maintained that any actions capable of creating division or undermining the stability of Awka should be avoided, stressing the need for dialogue and respect for established traditional processes.
The statement adds a new dimension to ongoing discussions surrounding traditional leadership and community affairs in Awka, with observers calling for calm and constructive engagement among all parties involved.
