Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has reassured Borokiri and Okrika Communities of the determination to complete the ongoing Borokiri -Okrika road, measuring about four kilometers with three bridges.

Assistant Director, Utilities, Infrastructural Development and Water Ways, UIDW, Mr. Matins Isichei who gave the assurance during inspection of the project at Okrika section insisted that efforts were geared towards making the project a reality.

Mr. Isichei explained that part of the foundation works were damaged but a new design has been put up to remedy the situation.

“As you understand, piles are the foundations of every bridge. So, if some piles are on the ground, inside the water, you don’t expect us to pile at the same position any more.
So, definitely we need a geometric design, that is, trying to reprofile the Bridge. So, we need to develop a new design to remedy the situation”

On his part, the managing Director of the construction company handling the project, Mr. Maroun Kassoof who said that launching of beams which would be done in phases would start soon maintained that works would also kick off from Borokiri section of the Road.

“We have started doing the beams, piling, we are planning to launch the beams in less than one month.
Also, we are working at the island but you cannot see it because you need to use a boat to reach the area, from the Borokiri axis, construction of road will be starting.”

Similarly at the inspection of Kaa-Ataba One point two kilometers bridge, the Consultant, Mr. AZU Chukwuma maintained that beam casting has been completed saying that the target was to complete the project in July.

Two residents of the Area, Mr. Maxwell Ijeh of Ataba and Wilson DAKA from Okrika while admitting that the projects would boost economic development in the communities appreciated NDDC for the gesture.

The respondents who said that the communities were eager to see the completion of the projects, promised to provide an enabling environment for the contractor to expedite action.
