Political tensions are beginning to build ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ebonyi State, with Labour Party governorship hopeful, Comrade Chief Eze Oko Splendour, dismissed the growing wave of political endorsements for APC leaders as mere “political gimmicks.”
Speaking in Abakaliki, the Labour Party aspirant argued that true leadership should be measured by visible projects and impactful governance rather than endorsements orchestrated by groups and individuals. He maintained that leaders who are genuinely serving the people do not need to seek political adoption, as their achievements would naturally earn public support.
However, Senator Ken Eze strongly rejected the claims, describing such criticisms as the tactics of politicians seeking relevance without contributing to the state’s development. He defended the endorsements received by Governor Francis Nwifuru and other APC leaders, citing achievements in youth empowerment, scholarship programmes, employment generation, healthcare recruitment, and infrastructure development.
The senator insisted that the endorsements reflect public appreciation for the administration’s performance, while urging the Labour Party aspirant to focus on presenting alternative policies rather than attacking political opponents.
Responding, Comrade Eze reiterated that Ebonyi people are more interested in completed projects, accountability, and good governance than political endorsements, insisting that “no amount of adoption can replace meaningful development.”
The exchange highlights the intensifying political atmosphere in Ebonyi State as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 governorship contest.
