The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has ignited a political firestorm by suspending its state chairman, Fatai Adams.
The suspension was orchestrated by nine members of the State Working Committee (SWC), who accuse Adams of engaging in anti-party activities.
Signatories to the suspension letter, including the deputy state chairman, Tola Alabere, state secretary Oluseye Olujimi, and state organizing secretary Dare Akinwale, allege that Adams’ actions pose a threat to the party’s unity and reputation.
The suspension notice, invoking section 58(1b. c, f. h. and i) of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017, contends that Adams is suspended for both anti-party activities and conduct likely to tarnish the party’s image.
The committee has directed Adams to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee within the next week for further investigations.
The statement issued by the committee firmly emphasizes the PDP’s commitment to confront any encroachment by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) into its ranks.
The party asserts its readiness to decisively handle any such incursions that may compromise its integrity.
“The party wishes to state emphatically that it will deal decisively with any incursion by the ruling party. the APC, into its ranks,” the statement partly reads.
As the political turmoil unfolds, attempts to reach the suspended chairman, Fatai Adams, were unsuccessful at the time of press, adding an air of suspense to the already intense situation.
