Enugu State Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Mrs Benedette Okoli, has called on women across the state to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Peter Mbah and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okoli made the appeal on Sunday while addressing women drawn from the 11 political wards in Awgu Local Government Area during a political mobilisation meeting organised in support of APC candidates.

The commissioner said the meeting was aimed at educating women on the achievements of the Mbah administration and the APC, while encouraging them to support the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections.

She explained that inadequate information about government activities could prevent citizens from appreciating ongoing projects and policies, stressing the need for sustained grassroots engagement.

According to her, the achievements of the state government were also made possible through the support of the Federal Government, making continuity in governance an important issue for the party.

Okoli expressed satisfaction with the turnout of women from the 11 wards and urged them to extend the mobilisation to their respective communities.

Similarly, the member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, appealed to the women to support Tinubu, Mbah and other APC candidates at the polls in 2027.

He urged them to reciprocate what he described as the governor’s developmental efforts through their votes.

The APC Enugu State Women Leader, Mrs Esther Edeh, commended Governor Mbah for appointing more women to positions of responsibility in his administration.

She pledged the support of women across the state for Tinubu, Mbah and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Okoro, commended the governor for projects executed in the area, particularly the transformation of the Awgu Game Village, which he said had remained abandoned since 1999.

Okoro declared his support for the governor’s re-election bid, expressing confidence in the administration’s performance in the area.

Responding on behalf of the governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, described the large turnout as an indication of women’s participation in the political mobilisation process.

He said the state government recognised women as important partners in governance and would continue to engage them in the administration’s activities and programmes leading up to the 2027 elections.

Onyia also called for sustained collaboration between the government and women across the state.
