A group of women from Rivers State, in what was a mild drama, took to the streets on Tuesday at Port Harcourt ‘s Diobu  area, marching to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) office.

Expressing their grievances, the women blamed PHED’s poor power supply for the sweltering heat, which they claimed has robbed them of intimate moments with their spouses.

Brandishing placards emblazoned with messages like ‘No Light, No Payment’ and ‘The Heat is too much’, these women voiced their frustrations, detailing the hardships they endure daily due to power outages, as reported by Daily Trust.

According to the protesting women, the scorching temperatures of sleepless nights have driven a wedge between them and their partners, rendering conjugal intimacy a distant memory.

They bemoaned the inability to preserve food, the collapse of businesses, all exacerbated by the erratic power supply plaguing their community.

Maria Ike, the leader of the protest, declared, “We have decided to let the world know what we are passing through in the hands of PHED. The poor supply in our area is at zero level despite the fact that we pay monthly bills to PHED. We no longer have romance and conjugal relationship with our husbands because of so much heat due to power failure. Our businesses have collapsed because of power outage. This is really affecting our families.”

In response to inquiries, PHED’s Public Relations Officer, Livingstone Koko, acknowledged the widespread issue of poor power supply across the nation.

He assured that PHED is striving to enhance power delivery in the state, albeit amidst the broader challenge.
