…She failed to show up after being given N7K to make hair

The police in Cross River State paraded a 30-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a machete after she failed to visit him on Valentine’s Day.

Amber Ubung reportedly became enraged when Blessing Onawu didn’t keep her promise to spend the evening with him, despite receiving N7,000 from him to style her hair.

According of to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Cross River’s Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, told reporters in Calabar that the incident happened at Okuni in the Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

“After waiting and the said lady did not show up, the suspect, Ubung, armed himself with a machete, went to the house of Onawu, attacked and gave her several machete cuts all over her body with the intent to kill her.

“In an attempt by the victim’s mother to rescue her, he used the same machete to inflict injuries on her.

“A team of policemen were mobilised to the scene, and the suspect was arrested with the machete.

“The suspect was transferred to SCID for further investigation and will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” NAN quoted the Commissioner to have said.

Police responded swiftly, arresting Ubung and seizing the machete.

The suspect awaits trial pending further investigation, while the victim and her mother receive medical treatment.

In addition to this case, nine suspects were paraded for armed robbery, and two for murder.

Commissioner Grimah urged the public to cooperate by sharing information to combat crime, assuring residents of the state’s commitment to maintaining peace and order.
