The 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party, APP, in Abia State, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu (KSJI), has signed up for the new Metaverse-owned social media App, Thread, becoming one of the first public figures and politicians in Nigeria to do so.

As a tech-savvy person, Chief Kalu, who is known for his democratic disposition to accommodating pluralistic views on any subject matter, invited friends to follow him on his Thread account ‘@mascotuzorkalu’, for “more robust conversation.”

The Thread’s account of the former Abia state Chief of Staff gained over 20 followers minutes after it was created today.

Thread is the latest social media platform launched by Meta, the owners of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, to rival the microblogging app Twitter.

Barely 24 hours after it was launched, the App has garnered over 10 million subscribers across the globe, according to Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

Aside from Chief Kalu, other notable Nigerian politicians and public figures that have signed up for the new social media platform include President Bola Tinubu, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and Linda Ikeji, among others.
