The student community of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has been thrown into sorrow following the tragic killing of Joseph Agbabaidu, a final-year student of the school.
The heartbreaking incident occurred during an attempt to steal his phone, leaving the community in palpable anger and disbelief.
Reports revealed that Agabaidu, a 500-level Geology student, met his unfortunate fate on Saturday evening around 7 p.m. as he made his way to his residence in Yelwan Tudu, a mere kilometre from the school gate.
It was during this journey that he encountered a gang of robbers who fatally stabbed him.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Agabaidu succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning, leaving the entire community in mourning.
In the wake of this tragic loss, a student, speaking anonymously, urged the school management, law enforcement, and the Bauchi State government to prioritize student security.
The plea emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent such heart-wrenching incidents in the future.
The news of Agabaidu’s untimely death sparked a protest by students in the Yelwa area around the school on Monday morning.
But law enforcement agencies swiftly intervened, dispatching patrol vehicles to maintain peace and order amidst the grief-stricken atmosphere.
The community remains devastated by this senseless act, mourning the loss of a promising young student.
