Chaos struck Sagwari Layout Estate in the Dutse area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday as gunmen, disguised as herders, stormed the area, resulting in the abduction of at least 10 individuals.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing incident, noting the invaders’ arrival at around 7:30 pm, when they forcibly took eight individuals from the estate.
Also, two staff members from a nearby hotel were also forcefully abducted.
Amidst the turmoil, one victim managed to send a distress message through the estate’s WhatsApp group, expressing imminent danger to his family.
Unfortunately, communications ceased shortly afterward, leaving the fate of the family uncertain.
In response, security forces swiftly mobilized, collaborating with estate security personnel to scour the hills adjacent to the estate in pursuit of the assailants.
In the course of their efforts, a security operative, initially held captive by the kidnappers, was successfully rescued.
Efforts to reach FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, for comment proved unsuccessful, as repeated calls to her phone remained unanswered.
However, contacting the Police emergency call center confirmed the command’s awareness of the situation.
The closest Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was alerted and directed to dispatch personnel to the scene.
