The police have apprehended two suspects involved in an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Aondona Dajoh, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.
The arrested individuals include a local government area chairman in Benue State.
Force Public Relations Officer, Oluwamuyiwa Adejobi, revealed this development in a statement issued on Monday, stating that the local government chairman had purportedly engaged an assassin to eliminate the speaker.
Swift action by the police, prompted by credible intelligence, prevented the execution of the sinister plan.
“Preliminary investigations exposed that the Local Government Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh,” said Mr. Adejobi.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, actively cooperating with investigators as the inquiry progresses.
Mr. Adejobi reassured the public of the police force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding citizens and public officials, emphasizing that the arrested individuals will face prosecution.
“The arrested suspects will face the full weight of the law, and the Nigeria Police Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, and prevention of crimes at all levels,” he declared.
