The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Nigeria Police Force in the fight against cultism, drug abuse and other social vices through sustained public enlightenment.

Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, gave the assurance while receiving members of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), led by officials of the Anambra State Police Command, at the Light House in Awka.

Speaking during the visit, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described POCACOV as a non-kinetic initiative of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at preventing crime through education, advocacy and community engagement.

He said the visit was to formally introduce the initiative to the state government, seek collaboration and strengthen efforts to curb cultism and related crimes across Anambra.

Ikenga disclosed that the organisation plans to intensify anti-cultism sensitisation campaigns in schools during the August holiday and engage women through community August Meetings. He added that POCACOV has structures in all 54 police divisions and eight area commands across the state to enhance grassroots outreach.

Mrs. Nnake described cultism as a major threat to the future of young people and called for stronger collaboration with churches, traditional rulers, Presidents General and educational institutions to spread the anti-cultism message.

Both the Anambra State Government and the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed their commitment to working together to prevent cultism and other social vices through continuous public awareness and community-based interventions.
