The Anambra State Government has intensified the deployment of solar-powered infrastructure across the state as part of its Smart Anambra initiative to improve access to reliable and affordable electricity.
The renewable energy programme is providing uninterrupted power to primary health centres, schools, water facilities and other public institutions, with the aim of improving healthcare delivery, enhancing learning, reducing operational costs and strengthening public service delivery.
The government has also installed solar-powered streetlights in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi and along major roads to improve security, road visibility and support economic activities at night.
In rural communities, solar-powered boreholes and mini-grids are being deployed to provide electricity to areas with limited access to the national grid. The state said it is working with town unions to ensure the sustainability of the projects through proper maintenance and affordable electricity tariffs.
To attract greater investment in renewable energy, the Anambra State Investment Promotion Agency (ANSIPA) is encouraging private sector participation in the provision of affordable solar energy solutions for homes, markets and small businesses.
The state government added that ministries, departments and agencies are gradually adopting energy-efficient technologies, including LED lighting and solar-powered appliances, to reduce energy costs.
The Soludo administration says the initiative is aimed at expanding access to clean energy, improving public services, promoting economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents across Anambra State.
