The Amirah Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has commended the prevailing peace in the South-East, particularly Abia State, ahead of its 11th National Conference scheduled to hold in Umuahia.

The National Amirah of FOMWAN, Dr. Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, made this known during a press briefing in Umuahia ahead of the three-day conference at the International Conference Centre.

Hamza dismissed reports portraying the South-East, especially Abia, as unsafe, assuring participants and Nigerians that the state remained peaceful and ready to host the gathering.

She disclosed that Muslim women from all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, are expected to attend the conference.

The FOMWAN leader appreciated Governor Alex Otti and the people of Abia State for their support, hospitality and commitment towards the successful hosting of the event.

The conference, themed “Faith, Resilience and Responsibility: Muslim Women Responding to Challenges,” will provide a platform for participants to discuss pressing national issues, strengthen relationships and develop practical solutions to challenges confronting families and communities.

According to Hamza, the theme reflects the need for individuals, families, communities and institutions to take collective responsibility for addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

She said participants would use the conference to dialogue, learn and network, while developing an action plan aimed at strengthening families, communities and institutions.

Highlighting FOMWAN’s contributions to national development, Hamza said the organisation had implemented interventions in areas including education, economic empowerment and political participation.

She stressed that government alone could not solve the country’s challenges, noting that nation-building required the collective efforts of citizens, organisations and institutions.

FOMWAN therefore called on the Federal Government, state governments and wealthy individuals to increase investment in education and skills development, mental health support, women’s employment and leadership, youth mentorship and responsible citizenship.

The organisation also prayed for sustained peace, security and justice across the country, while urging Nigerians to work together towards building a more prosperous nation.
