Memunat Adeoye, a businesswoman, has made a startling revelation in court, seeking an end to her five-year marriage to Abdullateef, citing neglect and inadequate care.
Adeoye recounted a distressing tale of hardship, alleging that her husband’s meager contribution to their household sustenance amounted to a mere N1,000 weekly allowance for food.
Moreover, she expressed discomfort living with his relatives, who she claimed treated her with hostility.
“Living with my in-laws was uncomfortable for me.
“He has never bought any baby food. He gives me N1,000 as weekly feeding allowance,” the divorce-seeking recounted her miserable experience in the marriage.
Adding to her grievances, Adeoye accused Abdullateef of physical abuse, painting a bleak picture of their relationship devoid of love or compassion.
“As if that was not enough, Abdullateef’s relatives have been very hostile to me,” she added.
In defense, Abdullateef, a farmer, denied the majority of allegations, attributing their marital discord to Adeoye’s alleged disrespect and verbal abuse.
As the court deliberated, it was revealed that the absence of traditional marriage rites rendered their union invalid, categorizing their cohabitation as mere coexistence.
While the court declined to dissolve the marriage due to procedural irregularities, it ordered Abdullateef to provide a monthly upkeep allowance of N5,000 for their child’s welfare.
A restraining order was also issued to prevent further harassment or interference in Adeoye’s personal affairs.
