Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma has made the headlines with his unequivocal declaration that Nigeria was like “a barren woman” before President Bola Tinubu took charge.
Speaking at the APC South-West stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, Uzodimma praised Tinubu’s reforms, calling them the “fertility drugs” that are bringing Nigeria back to life, despite the short-term pains experienced by citizens.
“Nigeria was like a barren woman looking for a child before President Bola Tinubu came,” Uzodimma said.
“He introduced the fertility drugs needed. Yes, they came with pains, but we are seeing results. We are not after excuses. We are interested in results,” the Imo governor added.
Uzodimma also commended Nigerians for their “resilience” amid economic challenges, stressing that unity and perseverance are key to building a more prosperous nation.
“We thank you for your resilience in admitting the difficulties from the reforms. A more united and prosperous Nigeria is what we need,” he said.
On insecurity, the governor vowed that Nigeria will defeat bandits and insurgents, while raising tough questions about the funding behind criminal activities.
“God made Tinubu possible. Of late we have seen the level of insecurity and banditry increase. Who are the people funding these criminalities? Progressive governors are united. Nigeria must win,” Uzodimma said.
As national coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Uzodimma revealed an ambitious plan: taking government policies to every community across the country, operating from zonal to ward levels, in sync with Tinubu’s Ward Development Programme.
“FAAC has tripled to states,” he said.
“With the Renewed Hope Ambassadors aligned with the Ward Development Programme, we will ensure that we have 1,000 active businesses in every ward in Nigeria,” he added.
The high-powered meeting brought together governors, party leaders, and stakeholders from the South-West, focusing on party mobilisation, boosting security, and reinforcing public confidence in the administration’s bold reforms.
