The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja is now under the stewardship of the federal government, marking the conclusion of the two-year maintenance period spearheaded by the Dangote Group.
After the rehabilitation of the stadium’s pitch and scoreboards, which were completed and handed over to the former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, the federal government has now taken control of the upkeep.
The refurbishment, handled by Aron Nigeria Limited and funded by billionaire Aliko Dangote, was part of the ‘adopt-a-pitch initiative’ of the federal government, ensuring the maintenance of the stadium for two years, which has now run its course.
In a concise ceremony held in Abuja recently, Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, expressed his satisfaction with the completed work and the transfer of the rehabilitated pitch and scoreboards to the government by both the Dangote Group and Aron Nigeria Ltd.
Senator Enoh commended the companies for their diligent two-year post-maintenance rehabilitation efforts and emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the government and the private sector to propel sports development in Nigeria.
“As a country, we owe a debt of gratitude to the Dangote Group for their substantial contribution to the rehabilitation of the National Stadium. I anticipate further collaborative ventures between the government and private entities to foster sports development in our nation,” stated Senator Enoh.
