The Senate President of Nigeria, Godswill Akpabio, has urged the immediate past Governor of Rivers State and the leader of the G5, Nyesom Wike, to come up with another aggrieved group within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to make winning the 2027 presidential election a smooth ride for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio stated this yesterday at the Thanksgiving dinner and reception held by the Rivers State Government in honor of former Governor Wike in Port Harcourt.
The Senate President, while recognizing the divisive role the G5 governors played in weakening the PDP and helping the APC retain power in 2023, thanked the splinter group, saying, “We are proud to have G5.”
He continued, “Please ensure that in 2027 another G5 emerges so that APC will continue to do well in this country. So if you like, you can add two more and make it G7 and not G5.”
The Wike-led G5 emerged after the former Rivers governor lost the PDP’s presidential ticket to Atiku Abubabakar and provided much resistance to his presidential ambitions at the 2023 general elections, with Wike himself ultimately working for the candidate of the ruling APC, Bola Tinubu.
