The early morning rush hours on Tuesday turned tragic in the Ago, Okota Area of Lagos State, as a vehicle running away from the harassment of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) collided with a tricycle, widely known as Keke, leading to a fatal accident involving multiple casualties, including a pregnant mother and her two kids.
According to eyewitness reports,
One of the LASTMA officials at the Okota Roundabout was dragging the steering of a Toyota Sienna vehicle with the driver while in motion in a bid to stop him for violating traffic rules while the vehicle was still in motion.
The Sienna driver consequently lost control and rammed into a nearby tricycle at Bayo Oyewale Street, killing the pregnant woman, her two children, and the tricycle driver.
The report says that the pregnant woman was taking her children to school when the tragedy struck.
There was an immediate protest at the scene of their accident as angry mobs descended on the LASTMA official, who was saved from being lynched by the timely intervention of the police.
