The Anambra State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement operation targeting unregistered vehicles and motorists who conceal or tamper with number plates.

The Command described the practice as a growing security concern that aids criminal activities and hinders effective policing and crime detection.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation follows a directive aimed at strengthening national security and improving vehicle identification across the country.

He warned that covering, bending, defacing, or removing number plates is a violation of the law and will attract appropriate sanctions.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said the exercise is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but to enhance security, intelligence gathering, and crime prevention in the state.

The Command urged residents to ensure full compliance with vehicle registration laws and assured that officers deployed for the exercise would operate professionally and within legal limits.

Authorities say the crackdown is part of broader efforts to make Anambra roads safer and curb the use of vehicles in criminal activities.
