Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, has urged Nigerians to maintain their faith in the team as they aim for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations triumph in the upcoming 34th edition of the tournament.

Amidst a disappointing pre-AFCON friendly loss of 2-0 to Guinea, marking the conclusion of their one-week training camp in the UAE, Musa stressed the team’s unwavering determination and belief in their abilities.

Despite the setback, the Eagles captain expressed his confidence, stating, “Everybody is excited and waiting to go to Abidjan. After the last game in Uyo, when the campaign started, we told ourselves about going there to shine. We can see all the quality in the squad and we can’t say otherwise. In football anything can happen but we have the confidence,” Musa is quoted to have told NFF TV by The Punch.

He continued, “Even the coach has set a target of winning the AFCON for himself too. I just want Nigerians to believe in the team, with their support we can go far.”

Musa and Kenneth Omeruo are the only remaining members from Nigeria’s victorious 2013 AFCON squad. Musa’s pivotal performance in that tournament included a goal against Mali in the semi-final and his role as a substitute in the final against Burkina Faso.

With previous AFCON wins in 1980, 1994, and 2013, Nigeria commences its quest for a fourth title against Equatorial Guinea on January 14, followed by clashes against the hosts and Guinea-Bissau on subsequent dates in Ivory Coast.
