The Imo State Government has explained that the financial assistance provided to indigenes evacuated from South Africa was part of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s efforts to support their reintegration and ease the challenges of returning home.
Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the governor approved a reintegration package for the returnees out of concern for the trauma and difficulties they faced, enabling them to settle back into society with minimal hardship.
Emelumba also disclosed that Governor Uzodimma recently responded to an appeal by Imo law students for support amid rising living costs, describing the intervention as part of the administration’s commitment to citizens’ welfare.
According to him, the governor has consistently supported students, noting that many law students are already beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship programme and other assistance initiatives.
He added that beyond infrastructure development, the Shared Prosperity administration remains focused on improving the welfare and well-being of Imo people.
